Baile Folklorico Remembers a Friend for Dia de los Muertos

The Folklorico Club hosted “Remember a Friend” in the Forum on November 8. The event was to celebrate the Day of the Dead and to remember a friend or family member who has passed away. The event also honored a beloved Mexican tradition.

Friend 1

The special event was sponsored by Groupo Folkorico Xhanat  this group performs mostly traditional dances from around the world, and Groupo Folclorico Cuauhtli is a group that loves to perform Hispanic dances and show them all around the community.

Jose Hueso, director of the Cuauhtil group, has been dancing for ten years. He was a dance teacher in Mexico and now in the United States. Under the direction of Hueso, the group performs for various community events with the purpose of preserving and keeping the Mexican traditions alive.

Friend 2

The group of Xhanat Folklorico was founded in 1995 by Fiacro Castro with the purpose of rescuing, preserving, and demonstrating the Hispanic Culture through dances, wardrobe, and monograph. Xhanat loves the opportunities to bring the beauty of the traditional arts to the community on a much larger scale and make a deep impact on the community in a positive and long-lasting manner.

Friend 3

Sophomore Mark Corio said, “It was interesting to see all the different kinds of dances they had. It seemed as if they tried to make us see the different cultural dances and they were also humorous.”

Friend 4

There also was an altar to remember Ignacio Garcia Prieto and David Rojas, two deceased friends of the event organizer, Spanish teacher Mr. Jesus Rios. David was born in Mazatlan, Sinaloa, Mexico. He was co-founder of Danazantes Unidos in the United States and CEO of Nuestras Raices. Ignacio Garcia Prieto was born in San Juan de los Lagos, Jalisco and was the founder and director of the Baile Folklorico del Ayuntamiento de Guadalajara.
